Gun Control 2009

The Supreme Court ruled in 2008 that Americans have a right to keep a gun at home for self-defense, striking down part of a handgun ban in the District of Columbia.

By a 5-4 vote, the court concluded the 2nd Amendment and its famous right “to keep and bear arms” protects the gun rights of individuals, rather than just a state’s right to maintain a militia.

Obama stated there is an individual right to bear arms, but it is subject to common-sense regulation, just like most of our rights are subject to common-sense regulation."

He explained what he means by common-sense regulation, “I think that local jurisdictions have the capacity to institute their own gun laws . . .

In 2009, lead by Democrats in both the House and Senate:

- The ASSAULT WEAPONS BAN, long pushed by Democrats, will see a vote in 2009.

New York Senator Schumer will lead the charge. I'd be surprised if we don't hear from him within a week after the November 4th election.

Mark your calendar!

The NRA and other pro-gun organizations will protest loudly, but the majority of hunters and clay targets shooters will look the other way, as long as shotguns such as the Remington 1100 is allowed.

- A Federal surcharge on ammunition sales will be implemented. Monies collected to pay for health care.

- Purchasers of ammunition will be required to provide identification.

- A law to ban lead for hunting will be proposed. This will include ammunition used by deer hunters.

- BACKGROUND checks for purchases made at gun shows in all states will become law, with a push to require Background checks for private purchases of long guns.

It will be almost impossible to regulate the private sales of used long guns outside of gun shows, as past ownership will be almost impossible to establish.

Most states don't require long guns registration, as required in Canada. It will be attempted by the Federal government, cheered on by the Brady Campaign.

A person who commits a crime with a firearm will be investigated, with the person selling him/her the firearm being prosecuted if a background check was not conducted.

- Once again a push to make the GUN INDUSTRY libel for guns they manufacture and used in a crime will be pushed at the federal level. A back door attempt to put gun manufacturers out of business.

- The Brady Campaign will lead an effort to dance around the Supreme Courts ruling in regard to securing firearms in the home. We can't have anyone protecting themselves when a drug addict kicks in the door to their home, can we?

- ATF will be directed to increase checks of FFL holders and a FFL fee increase will be seen.

- Three members of the Supreme Court will retire. We will see the 2nd Amendment weakened, as new members of the court will not be supporters.

One of the first court rulings will see the states win the augment they should not be forced to implement the Washington D.C. 2nd Amendment ruling, as it infringes on state rights.

- New York City will argue they have the right to deny firearm permits without just cause. The city assumes a favorable court ruling after new members have been sited to the Supreme Court.

Common-sense regulation from a Liberals Point of View:

Pay a reasonable annual registration fee, per firearm...

Be in possession of a license approved by local officials...

Guns in the home must be disassembled...

Safe storage...

Transported securely to and from the range...

Use ammunition approved by the government...

Use firearms only in areas not designated Gun Free zones...

Firearms must be from the same period as when the 2nd Amendment was written...

  1. Thanks for the info, this is an excellent article.

I just wish the laws of today would hold orders to deport, imprison, or execute accordingly, any, and every person, who attempts to dismantle, break down, or otherwise dilute, any sentence, word, or letter, of the Constitution, Preamble, Declaration of Independence, & Bill of Rights, and extend this also to persons who would merely contend that these documents are "open to interpretations" which are solely and totally worded, to completely twist the meanings of the words which were so vary carefully chosen to bind the wittings in these documents, as if to be set in stone for eternity, and the clearly precise punctuation, which in my eyes, makes these documents un-movable, un-changeable, thus un-mis interpretable to other meanings.

EXAMPLE, The word "Secure", has been called a word "NOT MEANING PRIVATE, OR MEANING LESS THAN PRIVATE" also stating that "NOWHERE in the BILL OF RIGHTS is the word PRIVACY found". WHEN IN FACT IT IS, AND IT DOES MEAN PRIVATE AND PRIVACY, and it means even the UTMOST LEVEL of PRIVACY.

When that was written, the word "SECURE" was taken from maritime definitions, fully meaning that NOTHING MAY PASS THROUGH, total INTEGRITY, such as "SECURE THAT HATCH", or "SECURE THAT LANYARD", all meanings in MARITIME DEFINITIONS of SECURE are TOTALLY SOUND, PERMANENT, UN EXPLOITABLE.

    We as citizens of the USA, find ourselves BOUND to ALL articles of ALL our National Documents that set the FOUNDATION of our FREEDOMS and our RIGHTS, INCLUDING;

Upholding, and Protecting and to Defend "AT ALL COST OF LIFE OR LIMB", this "Our Nation Against ALL ENEMIES Both FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC"....

The Quran is also that ENEMY, fully and totally denying more than half of our rights, and most human rights, and if a Muslim does not hold up or defend those orders he is to be killed. By all paragraphs of the Quran, our Governmental foundation is an enemy, thus Islam is our enemy too.

Too many people have never read or studied even a part of the Quran, the Bible says "KNOW YOUR ENEMY", if you read the Quran, and the documents of our founding fathers, you will see CLEARLY, Islam IsNot LEGAL in our country, it IsNot RELIGION, it IS GENOCIDE, DICTATORSHIP, RACISM, SEXUAL MOLESTATION, CRIMINALISM, TERRORISM and more...

  2. On the Video News menu on the right side here, I noticed a GUN BUY BACK, which turned into a GUN GIVE BACK......

I want to say hope that many will quote me......

Many people will impose on others to give up their guns, BUT those who kill or would kill, or would even think of committing a crime with a gun, will never turn in their guns, AND if there were no guns in this country, any criminal could get guns here, and they would be the LAW....

After all,has anyone ever stopped the drug flow? Or immigrants?

Persons with any brains at all would know this, and would never turn in their guns either!

Cars kill more than guns in our country, can we start up a "Car Buy Back"?

If you see a rock on the ground, it is a WEAPON.

If you pick it up and hold it in your hand, you have a LOADED WEAPON.

If you put your hand and rock in your pocket, you have a LOADED CONCEALED WEAPON.

    Maybe we should outlaw ROCKS....

We should start a ROCK BUY BACK PROGRAM......

Has anyone noticed the numbers of WILD ANIMALS encroaching on our yards and towns? NO this is not URBAN SPRAWL, if anything it is LOGGING destroying the environment the animals live in, forcing them to come into our towns and yards.

If you have no WEAPONS, you don't have a chance to fight them off, or to FIGHT OFF CRIMINALS WITH GUNS!!!!!!!!!

  3. The thing that gets me is,they think taking guns away from law abiding citizens is their way to curb violent crimes with guns. They are mistaken. Criminals get guns from the black market ! The majority of guns that are involved in violent crimes are stolen weapons ! A lot of them are never found! But to take them away or ban them is wrong!

  4. Yea this kills me, the attempt in 94 did nothing to curb crime.

Our best buddies across the pond who have already given up their rights regret it daily and publicly plead that we learn from their mistakes. Only people with firearms in the UK are the Criminals and the Government and violent crime has actually increased.

The ammo registration bill is just a backdoor way to take away our firearms. What good is a car with no gas, about as much good as a gun with no bullets. Instead of having a gun now you have a club.

Every gun owner I have ever meet has been in favor of safety and security. However I think gun owners consider it a matter of personal responsibility vs. something that the Government should be telling everyone what to do.

I would say it was much more common for a household to have a firearm in the 40's, 50's, and 60's but you never heard of issues like we see today. Its a matter of parents taking responsibility to teach and train their children.

Even today in rural areas, there is higher per capita gun ownership. But you dont have the coresponding rise in gun violence.

Previous poster was correct, the only people more gun laws effect are the law biding citizens. The criminals who are already breaking the current laws doesnt care and it isnt going to change anything with them.

  5. A Little Gun History Lesson

In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.
China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, some 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, some 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million 'educated' people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million.
It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars. The first year results are now in:

Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent

Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent

Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!

In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns!

It will never happen here? I bet the Aussies said that too!

While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.

There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the ELDERLY. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in successfully ridding Australian society of guns. The Australian experience and the other historical facts above prove it.

You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information.

Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.

Take note my fellow Americans, before it's too late!

The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind him/her of this history lesson.

    With Guns... We Are 'Citizens'.
    Without Them...We Are 'Subjects'

During W.W. II the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew most Americans were ARMED!

Note: Admiral Yamamoto who crafted the attack on Pearl Harbor had attended Harvard U 1919-1921 & was Naval Attaché to the U. S. 1925-28. Most of our Navy was destroyed at Pearl Harbor & our Army had been deprived of funding & was ill prepared to defend the country.

It was reported that when asked why Japan did not follow up the Pearl Harbor attack with an invasion of the U.S. Mainland, his reply was that he had lived in the U.S. & knew that almost all households had guns.

  6. ignorant pander like this makes me ashamed to be from America... fact is if I could keep most of you from owning a gun... I'd probably feel a lot safer and you're not even the ones this type of legislation aims to prevent from owning guns... will it be more difficult... yeah... will some things become difficult or impossible to obtain, maybe... perhaps if your that passionate about gun ownership or the quality of ammunition... you should learn the art and make it yourself... generally someone with that level of knowledge about firearms doesn't really worry me to much that they own them...

  7. I think gun control is bad and we should get rid of them

  8. Gun control is hitting what you aim at. I've owned guns for more than 25 yrs, I have never had to shoot or threaten anyone other than to protect my home and family. My guns have never commited a crime but they have damn sure prevent 2. Oh, both times the criminal was armed and certainly not obeying any kind of "gun control" laws that are aimed at depriving me the ability to defend my family and home.

  9. you can take my gun from my cold dead hand, It is a quote. And it is true to those who know how to protect themself.

  10. the Gov. will never take guns away

  12. What is the matter with you people? This article was full of rhetoric and fallacies. There were many uses of dysphemisms, it was ridiculous. No wonder you are afraid of the government taking away guns and ammunition. That's what they wanted you to believe and I don't ever recall hearing anything about taking guns away. I am a mother of three small children and I am terrified that when they go to school, they might not come back because some other child who has family issues and hates the world and everything in it, decides to get a gun and shoots everyone in their classes. There needs to be stricter guidelines for buying guns. I know guns don't kill, people do. That's why there needs to be a better system for obtaining a FOID card and gun purchasing. I, myself, am a gun owner, I know what questions are asked to achieve either of these, and it is pathetic. There needs to be better and stricter back round checks and longer holding periods before receiving a gun after purchasing it. And as for higher rates on ammunition, well, do any of you smoke? Look at the taxes on cigarettes. You don't mind paying for that, do you? And with that, you are just killing yourself and the people around you, anyway. It angers me how people let this persuasive language and use of photos be the root of their decisions. Get your fact straight.

  13. well i guess, in the end, you can't change peoples opinions...but guns CAN be a bad thing. there should be mental evaluations of ALL family members before you should be able to obtain a gun in the home.

  14. It definitely seems like the RIGHT to bear arms has turned into the PRIVILEGE to bear arms...
