Aug 27 @ NCSC (Vt) Fun Shoot

The wife and I shot the North Country Sportsman's Club Summer Fun Shoot.

16 yard and 24-yard handicap trap was one event, two-man team trap doubles was the second, and two-man team 5-stand was the third event offered.

Beautiful weather, but it did start to cloud up in the PM. The region is expecting a big storm on Sunday.

As you see at many clubs, a small number of dedicated members ran the shoot. Hats off to them and thanks for holding the shoot!

Thanks to the lady who came out an ran the kitchen...

My wife had not visited the club for a number of years. She last attended a shoot at the club when they held registered skeet shoots. The skeet fields are long gone, as the club had shot fall problems in conjunction with skeet shooting that could not be addressed.

The club is located south of Burlington in Williston, Vermont, just off the Taft Corners exit. Maybe two minutes from the interstate. From the NY/Vermont ferry crossing, a 30 minute drive.

Aug 20/21 @ Quebec Provincial Trap Championship

Attended the le Championnat Provincial 2011 (Quebec Provincial Trap Championship) at Club de tir L'Acadie, St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Québec this past weekend.

Great weather on Saturday. A light rain on Sunday morning, clearing in the PM and a bit of rain just as the handicap squads were finishing.

Targets were flying good and never had a problem with a voice release.

The crew working the desk did a fine job, as well as the trappers.

Besides the posted video, two other videos are available for viewing. The second is Sunday action. The third video covers the awarding of throphies (All in French).

13-year-old wins 2011 Grand Handicap Challenge

SPARTA - You couldn't have wiped the grin off Logan Taylor's face with a road grader.

Who could blame him?

The 13-year-old from Russellville, Ala., bested some of the best shooters in the world to claim the $100,000 Grand American Challenge at the World Shooting and Recreational Complex.

"I feel great," he said, dissolving to a giggle. "I'm excited."

That might have been the understatement of the day. Taylor struggled to remember what year of school he'll be entering - eighth grade for the record. His mind was obviously churning.

This is the second year of the event that pits the winners of the eight handicap events, the high average handicap shooter and a contestant drawn at random in a winner-take-all format.

Aug 14, 2011 @ Vermont Sporting Clays Championship

Northeast Kingdom Skeet & Sporting Clays, Burke Hollow, Vermont.

That's me in the video. On an elevated stand.

Close in targets. Put in IC chokes and never changed them. I only had one station where I had difficulty seeing the target. Was looking down into trees with a cloudy sky showing behind the trees (the course is built on the side of a mountain). Kept losing the first target, not a problem with the second.

One flinch at the end of the shoot, ouch... Ended up with a 86!

The Five Stand was only available for those who wished to shoot the subgauge events.

The club put on a nice lunch...

The club is working to install a wobble trap machine.

Speaking of the flinch. The last several weeks I have been pausing just before calling for a target. Focusing beyond the barrel. Only two flinches in that period (skeet, trap, & Sporting). Prior to this, I would have two or three, if not more per 100 target event.

Aug 13, 2011 @ Valleyfield (Trap)

Club de Tir de Valleyfield, St-Stanislas-de-Kostka, Québec.

5-Man Team Fun Trap Shoot (50 targets).

To encourage participation from those who would not normally join in, youth and women shooters received 5 bonus targets.

Shells and lunch included in the cost of the shoot.

90 shooters in attendance.

I was surprised at the turn out. Well run!

The practice trap fields saw heavy usage.

Each member of the winning team received a belt buckle!

Five Man Team Champions:
Potosky Joe, Potosky Heide, Jean Francois, Jean Daniel, Price Bill.

In the afternoon a skeet field was opened and was being used at full capacity when I departed.

Clay Target Shooter Artemio Formoso

An interesting article on a person who took up clay target shooting (compack - 5 stand) after losing an arm.

El pontés Artemio Formoso encontró en el tiro una vía de escape para recuperar fuerzas tras perder un brazo en un accidente de moto.

El pont Artemio Formoso found shooting an outlet to recharge after losing an arm in a motorcycle accident. Following the maxim that what does not kill you makes you stronger today is a recognized sport.

In spanish... If nothing else take a look at his photo!

Aug 7, 2011 @ La Roue Sporting Clays Shoot

Spent Sunday with my camera at the La Roue du Roy, Hemmingford, Québec.

The club was holding a 100 target, 16 station fun shoot.

I think the best target presentations at the club this year.

As shooters had the choice of shooting either on Saturday or Sunday you won't see photos of those who shot on Saturday.

The club was nice enough to lend me a cart for getting around with my camera.

Aug 6, 2011 @ Lamoille Valley Skeet Shoot

We attended the annual Jim Chapman Open 12 & 20 NSSA Skeet Shoot @ Lamoille Valley Fish & Game Club, Morrisville, Vermont.

From the house about a 1hr 50min drive. The club is 30 Minutes east of the Underhill Rod & Gun Club.

A two field club with the fields built into the side of a mountain.

The left field is the most shooter friendly. The field on the right can be tough to shoot at times.

A hot and humid day. I tried to stay hydrated but ran out of steam during the afternoons 20 gauge event. I was dragging when I left the field.

A nice turnout from the Underhill Gun Club.

The club just this year purchased a set of used Laporte Skeet Machines for the right field.  A nice addition to the club.

As I understand it the club just certified two new referees. A nice job by both...
