NY Sporting Clays Championships

Rochester Brooks Gun Club.

Friday's weather was perfect, but it did get a bit on the warm side late in the afternoon.

The prelim was shot on Friday, main event targets on Saturday and Sunday.

A lot of close in targets for the prelim.  Close, but a lot of speed!

I'm shooing the small gauge event on Saturday PM, 28 gauge.

Then-Sen. Obama co-sponsored ‘stand your ground’ law in 2004 in Illinois

President Obama may currently be calling on the states to review their respective “stand your ground” gun laws, but he wasn’t always so opposed to the right-to-carry rule.

In 2004, while a senator in Illinois, he co-sponsored legislation that allowed for the same rights. The pertinent legislation was SB 2386, amending the criminal code of 1961. It was introduced in the 93rd General Assembly session and passed into law on July 28, 2004.

The text summary read: “Provides that it is an affirmative defense to a violation of a municipal ordinance that prohibits, regulates or restricts the private ownership of firearms if the individual who is charged with the violation used the firearm in an act of self-defense or defense of another. Effective immediately.”

The Illinois General Assembly website indicates then-Sen. Obama signed on as a co-sponsor on March 25, 2004.

Russian Forces to Provide “Security” At US Events

As part of a deal signed last week in Washington DC between the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry and FEMA, Russian officials will provide “security at mass events” in the United States, a scenario that won’t sit well with Americans wary of foreign assets operating on US soil.

According to a press release by the Ministry of the Russian Federation for Civil Defense and Emergencies, US and Russian officials met on June 25 at the 17th Joint U.S.-Russia Cooperation Committee on Emergency Situations.

In addition to agreeing with FEMA to “exchange experts during joint rescue operations in major disasters,” the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry will also be providing “security at mass events” in the United States.

This suggests that events designated as “National Special Security Events” by the Department of Homeland Security, which include the Super Bowl, international summits such as the G8 and presidential inaugurations, will now rely partly on Russian authorities to provide security.

One more reason not to give up your gun rights and be weary of registration and ammunition bans!

North Country Classic Sporting Clays @ 1000 Islands Sportsmen

It's been a few weeks, but the sporting clays shoot at the 1000 Islands shoot should receive some recognition. The first NSCA shoot held at this upstate NY club.

Six of us made the three hour trip to the club.

15 stations (no hand traps).  $40, to include NSCA shoot fees

Registration went smoothly and we were on the course within 15 after arriving at the club.

Not one to stick with one choke I went though a variety of chokes, from skeet to modified.  Going with modified on outgoing targets, especially for the second bird.

Any machine/targets problems were taking care of in minutes.

The next shoot will be the 1st Annual 1000 Islands Shootout on August 24th.
