Jan 27, 2017 @ Indian River Shooting Sports

Indian River Shooting Sports (Vero Beach, Florida).

A pleasant 70 degrees.

We arrived around 10:30 pm and maybe two squads on the course.

14 stations and a lot of target variety.  A number of stations had four machines and we took advantage. Heide shot six boxes.

Everyone we talked to was friendly and I highly recommend the club if your in the region.  Loaner guns available.

 Heide, Dan, and ME!

We even got in a round of trap.

Canadians using the Hunting License Option to enter the USA

The Alaska hunting license used by many to support the ATF Form 6NIA has increased from  $20 to $60.

North Dakota has a reasonable priced Nongame license.

North Dakota  Nonresident Nongame License

However....

The Nongame license is valid from April 1st – March 31st of the following year.

If you apply in January, the license would expire on March 31st the same year. Wait until April 1st to get full value.

Jan 21, 2017 @ Volusia County Gun Club

Volusia County Skeet and Trap Club (New Smyrna Beach, Florida).  One of the busiest small clubs in Florida.
Each Saturday at 9am the club offers Super Sporting Clays.  This is a recent expansion of offered club disciplines (skeet / trap / 5-stand).
Two 50 target Super courses.  One set with hula hoop stations past the 5-stand and the other shot off the 5-stand.
I shot the hula hoop course. Wish to say I did well, but didn't, next time : )  But, a good bunch of shooters and had a good time.

A short video (35 seconds)

Photos....

The club at some points hopes to have a sporting clays course.  A few machine purchases here and there as money becomes available and eventually......

Jan 18, 2017 @ Palatka Skeet Club

Palatka Skeet Club (Palatka, Florida)

80 degrees and just a little wind kicking up every now and then.

Known for its skeet, but we were hoping to get in a round or two of trap, but the lone trap machine was down for repairs.  A PAT TRAP with wobble option,  No voice release.

We did get in three rounds of skeet.  Member rate $5 a round.

8 time NSSA Intermediate Club of the Year and doesn't surprise me.  A year doesn't go by without the club making improvements.  Today, installing new skeet machines on two fields.

Prepping the skeet house for the new machine.

As we were leaving they just needed a new fuse (auto type) to get the trap machine up and running. Someone was going to run into town and get one.

Skeet shooter passed.

Arthur P. Starr Jr., of New York and winter resident of Palatka, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017 after a short illness.

I pulled many of targets for Art both in New York and Vermont.

For more then a few years he helped in the running of the Palatka Skeet Club.

Art always had time to shoot the breeze. He will be missed.

Jan 14, 2017 @ Flagler Gun Club

Flagler Gun & Archery Club (Bunnell, FL)

We showed up bright and early at 8am for a Skeet Work Day.

A hard working crew and little direction was needed.  Field #3, the only operational skeet field was looking almost as good as the day it was built when we finished, except for needing a new paint job.  It seemed like only a few years ago but much longer then that, but I helped install the machine in the high house when it was first built.

The fence is in need of major repair, but that is for another day.

Field #1 and #2 down for the count and what a mess.  We did some trimming just so the pads on the unused fields didn't get anymore overgrown then they were.

The old skeet buildings on 1 & 2 were torn down and the rebuild to put it kindly, mismanaged. I'm told the new buildings not meeting the standards for skeet and most likely need to be torn down. You'd think they could be modified, but I'm told no.

For the size of the club, only having one field is just going to lose you shooters, even long time club shooters.

Imagine the length of time to complete a round when one or two new shooters on the squad?  Or, more then a handful of shooters and only one field?

Major dollars needed, but will the club provide the funds?

If nothing else I would push for field #2 to be funded (high/low house configuration) and wait and see if field #1 is needed or not.  If for some reason you need a third field for a function just borrow or rent a scissorlift for the weekend and use for the high house, as field #1 already has the pads installed.

Jan 12, 2017 @ Amelia Shotgun Sports

We paid a visit to Amelia Shotgun Sports (Yulee, Fl.) this past Thursday afternoon.

Had the sporting clays course to ourselves.  A squad was going out as we were finishing.  A squad was shooting trap.

76 degrees and no humidity.

Healthy looking hawk

We didn't experience any machine or target issues.

Two stands per station, red and blue.  Shoot red on one visit and blue on another, or a combination of both on the same outing.  Target counters in use, so whatever you wish to do.

Mentioned it in the past.  The club has a yellow course for beginners.  Many of times I've seen granddad with grandson.  Dad with kids.  Even seen the girl friend bringing out the new boyfriend.

Loaner guns available, as well as hearing and eye protection.
