Jan 21, 2018 @ Saltwaters Shooting Club

Saltwaters Shooting Club (St. Augustine, Florida)

Two 14 station courses.  Birds moving on the back course and not recommended for the novice.  Heck, I was in over my head on more then a few....

$40 per 100 (plus you get the use of a cart).

We were on both courses.  No problems with targets or target release.  A few times we saw someone driving around and loading machines.

The club ask that you pick up spent hulls and provides magnetic sticks to ease cleanup.

Open Wednesday thru Sunday.  9-5.

 Heide on the front course

Turn right for the back course.

Almost warm enough for shorts.  Maybe next time.

 Front course station.

Station 14 behind the hill (front course).  Fast moving rabbit coming off the hill.

 5-Stand

 Skeet (sporting clays prices)

 Pistol/Rifle

Jan 17, 2018 @ Palatka

Palatka Skeet Club (Palatka, Florida)

In the 60's. Temperature dropping and winds picking up when we departed.

Two fields in use when we arrived.  One a full squad and on the other a person using a clay delay.  Other then that we had the place to ourselves. When we departed, the only shooters.

Shooters responsible for opening and closing fields to include loading machines, removing boxes, and picking up spent hulls. If no one wants to use the field when your done, you do all the above.  Last person out also locks the entrance gate.

Members pay $5 a round.  Non-members $7.

Tough place to shoot in the early morning this time of year.  Sun right in your eyes on the early stations, with high #1 being the worst.  If shooting registered and on the first rotation, hope for a cloudy start to the day.

We washed the car on the way home.

Most of the fields have entrance doors to the backside of the building.  Since the last time I visited, sheets of plywood installed (and painted), to shield those needing access from view of shooters on adjacent fields.

Local parachute club.  I find it not distracting unless on station #8 high and calling for the bird and they dump air out of there chute and start dropping like a stone.  I'm sure there are shooters that concentrate so fiercely and not a bother. I'm not one of them.

Jan 13, 2018 @ Flagler

Flagler Gun & Archery Club (Bunnell, Florida)

Can't seem to get away from the cool weather. 56 degrees when I arrived. 51 degrees when I departed. Also, experienced a brief shower.

Trap/skeet priced pretty reasonable for Florida.  Club members can purchase an eleven (11) round punch card for $50.

Shot a few rounds of trap.  My trap scores have been horrendous for the past year.  Been messing around looking for a fix.  On station 1 & 5 I decided to hold out an additional two or three feet.  Low and behold hard lefts and rights started to break.  I guess I've lost a step or two in my senior years.

Membership is on the high side (new members pay an added assessment for the first 10 years), but besides clay targets they also offer rifle, pistol and archery.  Also, club members have to work X amount of hours per year and if not, pay an additionally $50 on renewal.

1100 plus members.

I didn't visit the sporting clays course, but the club purchased wireless remotes for all Sporting Clays traps to eliminate cords.

The club in the past year purchased (4) new traps for the Trap Range. One a wobble trap.

Two of the trap fields have coin boxes, but at the moment, both boxes have been returned for maintenance/upgrades. Purchase coins in advance and shoot trap at the club seven days a week.

If it even feels like its been wet, bring a pair of hiking boots or boots to the trap range.  Poor drainage.

Trusted skeet shooters can obtain acess to the skeet fields and can also shoot seven days a week.

Three skeet fields.  The club built (2) Skeet houses and purchased or rebuilt 4 sets of traps for skeet.

A good intentioned person took on the task a few years back of tearing down and rebuilding skeet fields 1&2, but screwed it up bigtime (to include not having building permits) and the club was left with only one operational skeet field (the one not touched) and two shells of buildings that couldn't be used for skeet.  I don't even know if he had permission to do the tear down.  The club stepped forward and voted to spend the money in 2017 to start from scratch.  New fencing was also installed.

Volusia County Skeet and Trap Club (15 minutes from the Daytona Beach Racetrack exit).

51 degrees with winds picking up in the PM.

High volume club.  Clubs twice the size would love to have the number of shooters the Volusia club see's each day.

Cancelled Shoot (Cold)

Notified an ATA shoot I was planning on attending is cancelled due to being too cold.

Weather in the 40's.

Not even cold enough to affect ammunition.

Gather no one in Florida owns a set of Long Johns.....
