Mar 28, 2012 @ Amelia Shotgun Sports

Amelia Shotgun Sports, Yulee Florida.

In the 80's. Some kind of bugs were feeding on are legs. Lucky we had bug spray in the bag,

Rain and thunder at the last few stations. We took a short break before finishing. Rain gear and umbrella sitting in the vehicle. It didn't look like rain when we started : (

A rather large portion of the video shows targets being hit. Maybe to many shots of targets being hit?

We had a good time...

Woman claims she lost hearing at League City shooting range

Interesting lawsuit.

Muffs alone may not be enough protection for everyone, as glasses and hair style may interfer with muff fit. My wife shoots with both plugs and muffs.

Have no idea on what the outcome will be, but a supply of various size earplugs should be a must at all ranges.

Woman claims she lost hearing at League City shooting range

GALVESTON - Claiming she lost her hearing after a trip to a League City shooting range last year, Hitchcock resident Mary Buchan is pursuing legal action.

Buchan's lawsuit against The Arms Room LLC asserts the weapons retailer failed to assure the plaintiff sufficient hearing protection during her visit on July 21, 2011.

The lawsuit was filed March 19 in Galveston County District Court.

The suit shows Bachan and an acquaintance went to the defendant's premises so that the friend, an elderly woman, could buy a handgun for her own protection.

Upon learning of the women's unfamiliarity with firearms, an Arms Room employee handed them a loaded weapon with the safety on and headphones and pointed the costumers toward the firing range.

Buchan had her pair of headphones over her ears as she and her friend entered the gallery.

The women then found their assigned place but the noise of shots fired in the neighboring lane kept increasing.

According to the suit, the plaintiff "could feel the vibration of each shot ringing through her ears more than the shot before."

"The plaintiff reached atop her head for the headphones to push them inward against her face in an attempt to muffle the loudness of the weapon being fired," it states.

"The plaintiff's attempts to dampen the noise were not successful at all, which surprised the plaintiff."

Ten minutes passed before the women exited the range.

Beikirch's to allocate clay target puchases

Located near Rochester, New York

March 24, 2011

To our valued customers,

With the current shortage of raw materials in the clay target industry, we at Beikirch’s are asking anyone who needs to pick up clay targets at our location to please call your order in ahead and ask when you can pick them up. We are doing our best to try and keep everyone shooting and not leave any club with no birds to use. We’re allocating them out as of March 24, 2012.

Beikirch’s is in daily contact with White Flyer in PA, and as of today the pitch mfg. is back up and running but only at 25% of their normal capacity. Bio birds are running short also due to the issues with pitch. Any clubs who need full truck loads please leave yourself with plenty of extra time. Full truck loads as of now are running 8 weeks out.

If anyone has any special concerns please contact Allan at 585-248-3660 ext.105 and I can try to work them through with you.

Thanks for all your patients,

Allan Rice – General Manager

Mar 25, 2012 @ Bradford Sportsmen's Farm

A good time at the Bradford Sportsmen's Farm, Graham, Florida.

Just dropping in for a visit. Two sporting clays courses. I shot both courses, the wife only shot in the AM.

A sunny day. A little windy in the PM. We shot 28 stations and I can't remember one machine problem.

A bit of fun at the end of the video, final station!

Mar 24, 2012 @ WW Sporting Clays

Spent the morning having fun at WW Sporting Clays.

Just dropping in, not attending a shoot.

We brought are lunch to eat after shooting the course and just as we were sitting down to eat, the rains begin. It was in the forecast so no surprise, but the temperature dropped from 80 to 70 in a matter of minutes.

The humidity is starting to be a problem as well as the bugs!

Cost to Reload 12 Gauge as of March 2012

I received pricing information for a club component order. Some clubs allow for members to piggy back on club orders. A big savings on shipping and at times a nice price break, as the club is purchasing in bulk.

I ran the numbers on my sites cost calculator for my 12 gauge loads using 700X. I also ran a second set of numbers with less expensive powder and primers.

I didn't include hulls, as I have not had to purchase same for several years. I also didn't include the clubs surchage, as I will be visiting the suppliers place of business next month.

* Lead was quoted at $32.95.

1oz, 12 Gauge.

700X Powder, Claybuster Wads, Hard Shot, Winchester Primers.

$42.54 per case.

1oz, 12 Gauge.

Promo Powder, Claybuster Wads, Hard Shot, Cheddite Primers.

I can purchase Estates and other low cost brands of shells for around $52 a case. Cabela's is currently running a special on shipping and has Estates on sale, so I don't even have to search for a deal.

Do I reload 10 cases of shells and save approximately $100 or purchase factory shells?

The answer for me is to purchase the reloading supplies, but to also purchase factory ammunition for the days I don't want to look at the reloader.

Mar 17, 2012 @ Volusia Gun Club

We spent the afternoon at the Volusia County Skeet and Trap Club shooting skeet.

The club has been busy in the last month...

The pads were poured for the new trap field (field #3), the 5-stand was moved to make way for the additional skeet field, and the pad for the high house skeet building (field #3) was also poured.

I was told that now that the 5-stand is in its permanent position it will be a covered 5-stand to protect shooters and scorer from the sun and rain.

A very active club. For day to day practice shooting, the busiest club in northeast Florida. Busier then 90% of the clubs I visit each year in the U.S. and Canada.

The 5-stand is used non-stop. Skeet and trap is so active that a third skeet and trap field needed to be built.

I foresee at some point after all planned facilities are in place that part time paid help is brought in. I don't know about the summer months, but the club could easily run five days a week during the winter shooting season with paid part time help and still be profitable. Maybe bringing in local collage kids to augment the volunteers when the club is the most active. Just my thinking and not anything that was mentioned to me in conversation, but at some point something that may have to be considered, as I said, very active. You can only expect so much from volunteers.

The club is 15 minutes from the Daytona Speedway and it was Bike Week. The number of bikes seen was impressive. The Harley dealer, a large business in its self looked more like a carnival setting, with numerous tents set up and at least a 1000 bikes in the parking lot. Could have easily been in the thousands.

The Cabbage Patch, a local biker bar just a mile from the club had the sheriffs department out in force directing traffic. This sleepy bar for most of the year, host numerous bikers and has RV parking and camping spots available. They put on numerous biker events throughout the week.

We stopped by the Daytona Flea Market and a special section had been setup on the grounds for hosting a biker swap meet. $7 to enter the swap area. Anything you ever thought of buying for a bike was available. Several special events were held.

Never made it to the speedway.

International Shotgun Shooting (Olympic) Forum

I had in the past been visiting a Forum on another site to check on Bunker and International Skeet shooting. Unfortunately, the main site has not been updated in some time (years) and I'm afraid the forum is going to go dark one day.

And, for me the forum is not the most user friendly.

I just put up a new forum and decided to add an International Section.

Lost Target Forum

Feel free to post your shoot dates and shoot results. Clubs from any country are invited to post.

I think you will find it easy to post shoot flyers and photos.

United Nations Arms Trade Treaty Negotiations

Backdoor attempt to restrict your gun rights...

Mar 10, 2012 @ WW Sporting Clays

The weather forecast kept changing throughout the week for the Jacksonville area, but we ended up with a day without rain and in the high 60s.

Targets had some speed on them. A shooter from Michigan mentioned he changed chokes on numerous occasions.

As what seems the norm at sporting clays shoots, a number of "golf" carts on the course, but it can be easily walked.

The shoot ran smoothly and I never had a machine or "no bird" problem.

A long bird shoot off took place for HOA (85x100) and one other class on the 5-stand.

Lunch was included in the cost of the shoot. $65, to include NSCA fees.

Smoked ham was the main dish. I was talking to the caterer and he said the pig was grown, butchered, and smoked on the same ranch.

White Flyer Price Increase

A rumor is floating around that White Flyer has supposedly increased price per case by $3.

A big jump in price, so don't know how valid the price hike quote is. Would not surprised if prices are higher, as fuel cost are on the raise, but $3 per case?

The real inflation rate may be risen its ugly head. The Cost of Living Index has been out of whack for the last few years. Those on fixed income and purchase groceries are well aware of the real inflation rate!

We'll just have to see how this plays out...

Florida Sporting Clays Challenge @ Bradford

Bradford Sportsmen's Farm, Graham, Florida.

Florida Challenge (Sporting Clays). A shoot offering four days of clays to include FITASC.

They got lucky with the weather rain wise, as heavy rains Saturday night. Clearing skies, winds picking up on Sunday, but cool, only hitting 60 degrees. Not to bad as the sun came out later in the AM and helped warm things up. I started the day wearing rain paints over my shorts to keep warm. By 10am I took them off. On saturday it was in the high 80s.

Plenty of parking. Two special parking lots for oversized vehicles and trailers set up near the club entrance.

A number of collage kids were brought in to ref. I talked to one and she was working her third shoot. All seemed very knowledgeable. I don't know if all were collage kids, but more than a handful were.

I talked to one ref and he was also a certified FITASC ref. On one station a shooter was trying to buy a target (my words), claiming he saw a piece on a lost call. No one on the squad or bystanders (me) saw one. He really pressured the ref to change the call, but the ref stood his ground. The members at the squad at one point looked embarrassed and started to look away. A couple of shooters went over to the ref when they were departing and told him, good job!

The main event consisted of two 14 station courses. A little something for everyone!

Strong winds on Sunday from time to time. Targets on some stations were doing a dance not envisioned by the target setter.

Two special 5-stand layouts placed on an empty field. Worked really well. Would like to see other clubs try to do something like that instead of using the clubs permanent 5-stand. The club has two permanent 5-stands and one was used for practice.

Scores posted pretty fast. Not much waiting around to see updates.

Ample food for lunch and at the end of the day on Sunday a free buffet for those who were waiting for the awards ceromony.

Mar 3, 2012 @ WW Sporting Clays

WW Sporting Clays. Located just west of Jacksonville, off I-10.

90 degrees, cloudy and windy. Tornado watch until 8pm.

Practice day!

Except for a few targets the wind was not an issue.

Had a rabbit that I had a problem hitting. For the wife, not a problem.

A visitor on the course.

We ran into a nice young couple that was shooting skeet.

Not uncommon at WW to run into young couples and/or the "young" crowd spending a day at the range.
