CAN-AM Sporting Clays @ Underhill (Vt) - Jul 12

Don't forget the second annual CAN-AM 100 at Underhill Rod & GUN on Sat 7/12, and then the VT state Warm Up on Sunday 7/13.

The Can -Am is a friendly competition between both sides of the border in which the winning side is decided by the cumulative score of the top five from both sides. The scores can come from both registered shooters and Hunter class. Last year, Canada took home the trophies by a 4 bird margin. Surely it will be a close match again, because there are many good shooters on both sides. There will also be a 50 bird side event.

On Sunday we have the VT State Warm UP which is another 100 bird main followed by side events.

We're sorry to be bringing such bad news on such short notice, and after being very optimistic about being ready and able to put on the shoot this weekend, we have made the difficult decision to cancel.

We were on a good schedule to be ready, but after experiencing additional rain and flooding over the last week to 10 days, as well as other factors not falling in to place, we have just been set back to the point where we feel it better to cancel than to put on a bad shoot.

We sincerely appreciate your understanding, and look forward to seeing you all at the State Shoot on June 13-15. There will be another mass email going out this afternoon to the larger email list, so this may be a duplicate for some.

Hey Folks, less than a month away from Underhill Rod & Gun Clubs annual Cabin Fever Sporting Clays event. This year the shoot will be held on two days. Friday May 2nd will consist of a 50 Bird 5-Stand followed by a 50 Bird sporting clays.
Sat May 3rd will consist of a 100-bird main event followed by a 50 bird super sporting and a 50 bird 20g event.
Lunch will be included on only the Saturday event.

March 2025 Visit - Jacksonville Clay Target Club

Spent Saturday AM doing video/photos at the Jacksonville Clay Target Club International Skeet Shoot.  A beautiful club with skeet and trap fields as far as the eye can see, plus two sporting clay courses (and a five stand).

$13.75 plus tax for a round of skeet or trap for a non-member ($0.55) a target.  Spending that kind of money, I pass on those disciplines and shoot sporting ($0.63 a target) for non-member and member. For me, more bang for the buck. A cart is going to cost you $30.

If you're visiting the Jacksonville area, you have this club, and the following clubs open to the public; Amelia Shotgun Sports (sporting clays) maybe 25 minutes north of the Jacksonville club, Saltwater's in St Augustine west of the airport (sporting clays) and Bradford Sporting Clays just outside of Starke. If your serious into skeet you might want to visit the Palatka Skeet Club, a bit of a drive but reasonable priced. I was told they have a PAT Trap in operation, but it's been more than a few years that I've visited.

I suggest you check a club's calendar before travel as charity/benefit shoots not uncommon.

March ATA Targets @ Flagler Gun Club

Last Saturday I took photos and video at the March Monthly ATA Trap Targets 2025 @ Flagler Gun and Archery Club (Bunnell, Florida).

You can't ask for a better background, open fields. The sky can almost be too blue!

Welcoming group and anyone attending will fit right in.

Free lunch!

It's a gated club but access granted for shoots. 

Plug the address into your GPS and you won't have a problem finding the club.

 

Amelia Shotgun Sports Visit 2025

Visited my club, Amelia Shotgun Sports (Yulee Fl.) today. I-95 exit for the club, maybe fifteen minutes from the Georgia border. In the low 60's but by time we departed it was 70 degrees.

Seems like years ago, but the club was just starting up and they were offering a deal (they needed startup money). Put up X amount of dollars and you received a life membership, and all monies given returned in targets. Target money has long been used but still receiving discounted targets.
Two courses. First five stations on the easy course, accomplished shooters can pass on. The remainder of the 14-station course can make you work.
The designated hard course can be a head scratcher (in a good way). Almost put in modified for a couple of targets (we shoot LM). They broke but thinking I'd get better hits with a tighter choke.

Club has loaner guns, cart rentals, and ammunition for sale.

Broken Stock Bolt Beretta A400

Pulled the trigger on my Beretta A400 and the stock separated from the receiver. Standing there with one part of the shotgun in each hand watching the target break.

The Stock Bolt snapped. Didn't know I had an issue as stock never felt loose. The last time the stock was off was in the 2018/2019 timeframe when first purchased, so nothing recent that I had done.

New bolt is $35 plus shipping.

Wednesday, after the shoot @ Bradford (Florida Challenge)

We went and shot the two 14-station main event courses today. We brought a lunch along and took a break between courses.

You'd never know that had a major shoot based on the cleanliness. Garbage collected, hulls picked up, bathrooms cleaned.
Shooter coming and going but we basically had both courses to ourselves. There is also a skeet in the woods course for newer shooters that we passed on.
There was water on the course. 79 Degrees when we departed.
Hats off to the young lady working the desk. Very knowledgeable.
I took photos of event winner scores if you had missed the posting of results.

Purchased shotgun ammunition

Was looking into an ammunition purchase (8 or 9 cases).

Academy Sports, $100 a case, plus tax. $104 shipped.

Bass Pro Shops, $100 a case, plus tax, ship to store.

My club (Saltwaters), $100 a case, tax included.

Home club the winner. They have RIO, Challenger and one other that I'm not familiar with, all priced the same.

Purchased a case of RIO to make sure no issues (shot them years ago). Person working the desk was concerned they might not work in a semi, as labeled low recoil. I can almost say one hundred percent that 1200 fps, 1oz is not something normally labeled low recoil unless it's a marketing ploy. Worked fine in two semi-autos.

I'm sure there is some deals out there but usually shipping kills the deal and nor do I want to drive any long distance.

82 degrees at the club. Almost too warm to shoot but we managed.

NCSC (Vermont) - 5 Stand - Winter Fun Shoot Schedule

January 11th (Saturday) is our 1st fun shoot of the winter season.

Fun shoots this year will be the 2nd Saturday of January, February

and March. Times available are 9:00, 9:35, 11:15, 11:50. Cost $40.00.

Shoot 50 targets then take a break warm up then shoot the next 50 clays. The warming hut will be open, heat will be on if the temperature is below 25 degrees. Free coffee, and crock pot food to warm you up. Limited to 24 shooters.
