Regulations Amending the Regulations Prescribing Certain Firearms and Other Weapons, Components and Parts of Weapons, Accessories, Cartridge Magazines, Ammunition and Projectiles as Prohibited, Restricted or Non-Restricted: SOR/2020-96

The Regulations prohibit approximately 1 500 models of assault-style firearms, including current and future variants. The Regulations also prescribe the upper receivers of M16, AR-10, AR-15 and M4 pattern firearms to be prohibited devices.

The Regulations address gun violence and the threat to public safety by assault-style firearms. The Government of Canada recognizes that their inherent deadliness makes them unsuitable for civilian use and a serious threat to public safety given the degree to which they can increase the severity of mass shootings.

The Order Declaring an Amnesty Period (2020) (the Amnesty Order) accompanies the Regulations to protect individuals, who were in lawful possession of one or more of the newly prohibited firearms or prohibited devices on the day the Regulations came into force, from criminal liability for unlawful possession for the purpose of allowing individuals to come into compliance with the law.

During the amnesty period, the Government intends to implement a buy-back program to compensate affected owners for the value of their firearms after they are delivered to a police officer; however, until a buy-back program is offered, affected owners will not be eligible for compensation. An option to participate in a grandfathering regime would also be made available for affected owners. Further public communications on the buy-back program and the grandfathering regime will follow later.

The Regulations and the Amnesty Order come into force on the day they are made. The Amnesty Order expires on April 30, 2022.

Off Topic: Indoor Skydiving

We went INDOOR skydiving for the first time.

It was the wife's birthday and I was looking for something different instead of same old same old (we shot sporting clays the day before).

All sporting stations we shot had four machines.  

As well as White Flyer targets, the club also uses targets from Europe.  No issues with eurotargets.  Center hit and you get dust...

I don't know if members get a deal on ammunition but bring your own unless you want to pay over $8 per box.  Cart rental for non-member was $25.

The club offers other types of clay target shooting, as well as Olympic bunker trap.

Targets for everyone.  Recommend you rent a cart.

The club also has skeet, trap, 5-stand and pistol.

Except for one machine that ran out of targets and a couple of broken targets we didn't have any issues (targets were discounted)  .

Bottled water available at a number of locations throughout the course.

Only 20 miles or so from Tampa.

First visit since 2018.  Facilities and club house in great shape.

14 station sporting clays, 3 machines each.  Five other stations available for beginning shooters.  Skeet and trap is also shot.

Two or three machines I should have changed to a tighter choke, but overall an IC course.

We rented a cart but you can easily walk the course.

In the low 60's with a cool wind.  Put on my rain jacked for a bit more warmth.

Didn't shoot it but looks to be an interesting 5-Stand.

As a side note it cost me some years back, $2,500 to become a life member of the club.  The club was just opening and they were looking for seed money.

The deal was you chipped in $2,500 and in return you received a life family membership, the complete $2,500 returned in shooting (you had a $2500 account and they deducted targets shot, from the $2500) and you could shoot at the club seven days a week.  You also shot at a reduced rate.

Still shooting at a reduced rate but the $2500 is long gone!

Sunday afternoon and crowded.  We bounced around from station to station instead of taking them in order.

A cart is a must and rentals are available ($6 per person).  A long walk if you don't. Members have use of a cart for free.

Two courses (moderate and one for the big boys).  Targets for all level of shooting.

$0.40 per target for non-members.

I think the last time I shot was in October.  A few medical issues have kept me off the range and just had a cortisone shot in each knee earlier this week.

First couple of shots my wrist were hurting, as well as my shoulder.  I missed the first six targets.  After a box the pain went away and more confident swinging the gun.  May take two or more outings before I'm back in any type of shooting form and before I even think of shooting trap (arm strength).

The wife shot her Beretta A300 Outlander Sporting for the first time.

Out of the box she had to have an adjustable comb installed and the stock shortened by 1/4 inch.

She shot two brands of shells.  1oz. 1200fps Fiocchi and Challenger.

Recoil wasn't an issue and no face slap.  Fit well in her shoulder and didn't have to feel for a sweet spot.  She thought it was lighter then her 1100 and found it well balanced.  No failures to fire.

Jan 30, 2016 @ Keystone Heights Sportsmen Club

We attended a fundraiser shoot at the Keystone Heights club (Starke, Florida).  A single field skeet club. 50 target shoot.  Shoot 25 and finish the second round after everyone has shot the first 25. A first time visit.

Arrived just as they were finishing up hooping the field.  Turns out the club just retired its old single stack Winchester machines and this was going to be the first big test of the replacement machines.

The new machines worked flawlessly. The high house bird was a little flatter then I’m used to coming out of high house on station #1.  I missed the first one out, but held lower and didn’t miss anymore high house #1’s.

24 shooters took part.  Several first time skeet shooters and some just barely familiar with the game.  Club members (to include the refs) went out of their way to give them a helping hand.  Several just shot singles or received a report part when doubles was to be shot.  Slow going but it was nice to see the interest in the game of skeet. 

If the top gun on your squad you were directed to a table that contained donated items.  You picked one.  If a tie, you both got to pick.

Rules a little different.  On station #8 you shoot high house, then shoot Low house, while the rest of the squad waits.  The squad stands aligned with station #4.  Like in International Skeet.

A high school freshman on my squad started out with a broken 1100.  The more I think about it, I think a broken firing pin spring, but we didn’t open the gun to take a look.  We shared my A400 Berretta for the round.

An optional turkey shoot was held.

Hopefully, the club will pick up a couple of new members.

If you went away hungry it was your fault.  Chicken and pork with all the fixings.  When I was going through the line I asked the lady if the cake I was looking at was homemade and she assured me it was.  When I went back to compliment her on her baking skills she gave me a cake to take home.

ERAD target voice release @ Volusia

The club uses the ERAD voice release system on its three trap fields. No wires, no microphone stands. The microphone is built into the card. Powered by two watch size batteries.

You clip the card on the upper part of your vest or shirt and your set to go.

Three rounds, two fields and no issues. You can have a normal conversation and not release a target.

The club will be hosting a ATA shoot on Friday, 19 Feb. Singles, handicap and doubles. 8:15 registration. 9:15 shooting. It may be there first ever. They do hold Big 50 shoots and have become popular (twice a month on Fridays).
