NSCA 2023 Rule Change

Several changes this year but two that interest me. Shooter has twenty seconds to call for a target.

On the face of it an awful long time for someone to call for a target. I "presume" gun and ammunition issues will be considered. Only a few with bad habits will be impacted.

No more than two-pair show targets. I'm all in for this one. I've stood behind the #1 shooter and watched a call for seven or eight targets. A couple of pairs. Show a few singles. Good riddance!

 /////

 NSCA 2023
 b. Shooter has 20 seconds to call for target after entering shooting stand and between shots. First shooter time starts at completion of viewing “show targets.” Warnings and penalties will be administered by Course Manager or Shoot Management.
 i. First violation = warning.
ii. Second violation and each subsequent violation in the round = two (2) targets deducted from final score.

Shooters Viewing Targets The first person on every squad shall be allowed to view a good presentation of targets from within the shooting station. At least one pair will be shown, but limited to no more than two pairs. This person is the only person permitted to mount their unloaded gun and track the targets being viewed.

Lost Target Schedule 2023

I was out of action over the winter months because of health issues, thus the lack of the Florida shoot videos and photos that I normally post.

All is now well (spent the winter walking the mall), and you can expect posting of videos/photos to resume in May 2023.

Santa left a new camera under the tree Christmas morning.  I'm hoping it will replace two cameras.

I've messed around with photo shooting and to my eye a big upgrade over my previous camera. Have not yet had a chance to visit a clay target range but I'm hoping for good things using the camera in video mode, as a much larger sensor and more video options. My first couple of shoots I'll be in learning mode so bear with me.

Federal Premier Ammunition Ships Ammo (USA)

Federal Premier Ammunition (FREE SHIPPING WITH ORDERS OVER $149)

I suspect the days of ammunition as $5-$6 per box is a thing of the past.

I stopped looking for ammunition deals and started getting serious about obtaining cases of ammunition.

Been running into ammunition, but only being able to purchase a few boxes of shells at a time at various stores.

I've seen postings of people who purchase 10 cases or more of ammunition, but not going to happen in the area I live anytime soon.

Came across the Federal site.  They will ship up to eight cases via UPS.  Unfortunately, not to every state to include New York.

I can get individual boxes at stores for $1 less, but not in any quantity.

I'm set for 2022.

If out of stock, they have box you can click. They will send you an email when in stock.  I had to do that twice and not more than 8-10 days went by before I received a notification.

Feb 2022 @ Tenoroc

Tenoroc Public Shooting Range listed as 42 minutes from the motel in Orlando. We last shot the club maybe 15 years ago.

No issues signing in. Targets were $.38 each. You can purchase a card that brings down the price. Great if this is your home club.
I believe a state or county run range. They also have other disciplines, to include archery.
A really nice rental cart. A cut above the norm I see at many clubs.
A cool start. Maybe 58 degrees, but 65 by the time we left.
We shot the course (sporting clays), 15 stations. Nice target presentations. You could most likely shoot the course with a skeet choke. We always shoot LM and that's what we went with. Some machines were out a ways, but if you wait on the target it came to you.
I don't think I'd shoot the course more than once or twice a year.
A one course club. If they are having a fun/charity shoot the course will be closed. I'd call ahead to check.

I have been told they plan on adding on an additional course or two.

Feb 2022 @ Saltwaters

Shot at Saltwaters Shooting Club, St. Augustine, FL.

Sporting clays. We shot both14 station courses. Well, we cheated a bit. Only shot 2 or 4 shells a station. Hit the targets and move to the next station. Of course, a few took more than 4 : )
You can walk the front course, but suggest you rent a cart for the back course. Most take a cart for either course, but I do see a few people walking (very few).
The club offers FITASC.

February Inter. Skeet Shoot @ Jacksonville

Jacksonville Clay Target Sports International Open Skeet Shoot (Photos & Video)

I've covered a handful of International Skeet shoots at the Jacksonville (FL) in the last few years.  This I think was the best I've attended.  Didn't see any machine issues.  Can't remember off hand of any broken targets being launched. Sunny skies, but the wind did kick up a bit on Sunday PM.

The last squad I covered I almost didn't have to move my camera for doubles.  When I shoot doubles, I'm usually (always) chasing after the second target.  For the last squad it was bang, bang (including a young lady on the squad).  That fast...

Lady shooters look to be up and comers.  No matter where they placed, they seem to be happy for each other.

Thanks to shoot management for the invite and thanks for Sunday pizza!

Feb 2022 Visit @ Blackjack Sporting Clays

We visited Blackjack Sporting Clays (FL) today. Not too happy with the route the GPS picked out, but now that I know how to get there.

We used LM, but didn't see anything IC couldn't handle. For me, not a big fan of the black targets on a number of machines. Turned out to be an eye test on a couple.

Not many, if any long crossers that I can remember. Did have some interesting setups. Fun with the rabbits.

Nice looking 5-stand. It reminded me of the old 5-stand at Club La Rue du Roy in Quebec. This was more impressive.

All cart paths are paved. Entrance to all stations is via a board walk. Don't remember seeing anywhere to sit on the course and no water (it was 86 degrees in the parking lot).

Enjoyed the club. Obviously, a club that host a number of local shooting events. At least two a week, looking at the club calendar. Nice layout in the back for functions.

Was able to shoot and rent a cart at member rates (retired military). $0.42 a target. Five or six card hiccups out on the course. The club made it right.

Very knowledgeable young lady working the desk (working on her college degree). Tip jar on the desk...+

If you go check the club calendar. Some days the club is closed until 1pm because of a local shoot. Some days it just one course that is closed.
